đ¶âOh be careful little ears what you hearâđ¶
Itâs a song we teach our kids as if they really have control over everything that comes into their young ears. This has been on my mind after reading an article that a friend posted about being aware of what kind of jokes we make in front of our kids.
It makes me think of one time when Kadynce was about 3 or 4 years old. We were driving through the mountains in Colorado with my grandparents. Grandaddy mentioned that they had met a lady that had lost her husband several years before. He continued on with the story. Several minutes later sweet little Kadynce spoke up and said âGrandaddy, did that lady ever find her husband?â Oh bless that sweet childâs heart. She was so concerned about that lady that âlostâ her husband. We of course had to explain to her that he had actually died and that sometimes people use the term âlossâ to describe death. We still laugh about this story frequently (we were actually just talking about it this morning). .
It had me thinking though, that those little ears never stop listening. Are we being mindful of what they are hearing? Theyâre like little sponges! Are we exposing them to constant gossip and negativity? Are we filling their minds with things of this earth of with things from above? Colossians 3:2 says âSet your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.â .
With that in mind letâs think about Luke 6:45 âThe good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speakâ. What is in your heart? That is what will come out of your mouth. That is what is going to fill your little oneâs ears and in turn their minds and their hearts! .
Oh that we will be mindful of what comes out of our mouths! Oh that the overflow of our hearts would be sweet fruit that is glorifying to our Lord!
